GM announced their bold leadership on the electric vehicle front this month.
GM is ending their small, incremental investments and is doubling down on its bid to win the Electric Vehicle (EV) race against a growing wave of foreign and domestic competition.
GM’s factories will build batteries as well as EV pickups, including the GMC Hummer EV pickup and SUV, the Chevrolet Silverado electric pickup truck, and the electric, autonomous robotaxi, the “Cruise Origin”.
By the end of 2025, GM said it will have more than 1 million units of electric vehicle capacity in North America. The focus of these investments will be EV pickup trucks — an area where GM will compete will Ford and Rivian. GM says their funding plans will create 4,000 new jobs, and retain 1,000 others,
GM’s investments will be good for Michigan, good for the U.S., and good for the world.
The sooner we kick our addiction to gas and diesel, the better for our health, security, economy – and environment.
